The main problem: Young people in Europe are not aware of the culture of the peoples of European countries, in other words, they are not united culturally: there are no common interests, hobbies, there is no or very little opportunity to practice their language skills, to communicate and learn about culture, free time and preferences of young people from other European Union countries. Hence, here, in Europe despite the European Union, the countries are separate and the residents of those countries are not connected with each other by anything, except for education.

Goal: If our project is implemented, the youth of Europe, particularly from Estonia, Germany, Greece, Romania and Turkey (the partners we acquired during our previous project called Comenius held in 2007-2009) will become more united, more sociable, will have common interests and ideas for creative activities that will be held regularly throughout the European Union. Our project is the first event in which a group of young people from several countries will be involved, but after that there will be many others who will want to create such projects, celebrations, where people can have a good time and learn lots of interesting things about each other. Europe will prosper, European youth will become more active, more united, which in turn will impact the whole Europe.

Target group: 40 people aged 16-20 from Estonia, Germany, Greece, Romania and Turkey.

What we offer:

The project entitled EUROPE DANCE TOGETHER

This project will be the first joint step in the cultural development of young people in Europe. What is it like? This is a festival which will be attended by boys and girls from different EU countries and countries-candidates. This will be an unforgettable show, in which a lot of young people will certainly want to participate, and for those who will not be able to attend, there will be access to view the live broadcast on television or via the Internet. The participants for the dance show will be selected by the committee consisted of well-known professional choreographers. When the committee is established and when the assessment criteria are announced, qualifying rounds will be organized, where all people aged 16-20 from above listed countries can take part. When the qualifying rounds finish, semi-finals will begin, which will select the most successful dancers according to the choreographers’ choice. In the end, the final will take place – it is the main idea of our project. What do qualifying rounds mean? What does one need to do to pass through? Qualifying rounds mean that participants will have to show their dance skills performing a dance by their own choice in front of the jury that will decide whether the candidate will pass to the semi-final or not. All semi-finalists for a certain period of time will have to learn some new movements presented on the video on the official site of the event. At the semi-final the head-choreographer will be showing those moves that the participants have learned before independently, but with acceleration. Those participants who will not be able to repeat them will not qualify to the final. For the best dancers some run-throughs will be organized, where the choreographers will try to integrate every participant and his dance into one long-term dance, which will be accompanied by special effects and music. We offer to organize this festival in Estonia, because it has a lot of experience in organizing this kind of events (Song and Dance festivals which take place in Tallinn every 5 years). But this time, the festival will be completely different as the dances will be presented in a variety of different styles (flash mob) plus dance greeting by each country-participant to show their dance culture.

It will be organized in the town of Narva, because this beautiful town, which is now the easternmost point of the European Union, is located at the crossroads of the two cultures - Eastern and European. Narva is rich in history, there are a lot of historical monuments and sights, which helps to create a spirit of the festival.

The venue: the area in front of Herman castle, because it is large enough to construct a stage and a dance floor. Also it is suited for a live broadcast, as there are bastions from which the dance floor will be seen, so that the spectators could watch what is happening right now at the festival and what patterns the participants are trying to show in their dance. The culmination of the festival will be the fireworks and the words of the people standing on the court - Europe forever.

With the help of television, radio and the Intrnet we will inform everyone about this festival. With the media (Radio 4, Narva TV, ETV, official Internet site) people will be able to see and hear the festival, even if they do not want to go out. We are supported by the town government and Narva Soldino Gümaasium administration.

The project team consists of 5 very active young people who want peace for everyone and that people from different countries and cultures could unite. The leaders of this project are the two friends - Dmitri Sotnikov and Dmitri Smirnov – who have some experience in international relations by participanting in the Comenius project.

Project programme (2 days):

1st day – welcoming guests and run-throughs

2nd day - festival

Festival programme:

  1. Grand opening celebration (official anthem of the European Union plays, on the stage the participants of the festival appear to tumultuous applause, the participants carry the flag of the European Union).
  2. The presenters of the festival appear on the stage (opening speech). After that the participants present their country on the dance floor one after another. The dance parties try to convey the culture and customs of their nations.
  3. After all the countries have been presented, all the participants enter the dance floor and begin a dance marathon, for which they have been prepared in advance. It consists of several dances going one after another, which are accompanied by special effects. This performance looks a little like a flash mob– it is a mass dance promulgating friendship between peoples.
  4. For the guests some time is given so that they could have a snack, a drink or buy souvenirs. In the area of the castle some tents are installed where people can buy hot food and drinks. To support the atmosphere of the festival, music plays.
  5. Continuation of the programme (the video about how the festival has been prepared is shown, also in this video we show some sights of the European Union).
  6. The participants enter the dance floor again and show the final dance at the end of which the people stand in a way that the words ’Europe Forever’ appear (everything is filmed on the camera from the top).
  7. Fireworks.
  8. Disco for all guests and participants.
